Peony in Bloom

The peony appears to be the “it” perennial in my neighborhood; nary a yard around that doesn’t have at least one of these beauties somewhere in the yard, be the peony front-and-center with all other plantings highlighting the lovely or be the peony buried beneath weeds.  Reds, pinks, whites, even pink with orange center (that one is super-cool looking), they seem to bring a bit of elegant formality to any garden.

I picked this up two Summers ago and paid way too much at a garden center, especially when it didn’t bloom last year.  This time around, I decided to simply ignore it–no babying, not even fertilizer–and I sweet blooms this year.  Even more lovely than the blooms is the fragrance, mingled with the heavenly scent of roses, mmmm . . .
